Notts Uni Relays
Saturday, 13 February 2010 17:45

Nottingham University Athletics Club is delighted to invite your club to take part in the 6th Ed Prickett Memorial Relays, held on University Park campus on Saturday 6th March 2010 and supporting the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund. The race also incorporates the University Relays series.

The long-running Nottingham relays were re-named in memory of Ed, a valued club member and friend, after he was tragically killed in a road traffic accident whilst at the British Universities Track Championships in May 2004. Proceeds from the event will go to the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund, a charity that Ed benefited from and as chosen by his parents.

The day will kick off with the women’s race at 1.30pm followed by the men at 2.30pm. We hope you will then join us for the post-race presentation in the University Sports Centre. There will be prizes for the fastest legs and fastest teams. Last year, over 100 teams from the country took part so this promises to be a wonderful day of running for runners of all abilities.

Please find an entry form here. Alternatively, you can enter online at runnersworld.co.uk. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or my colleague Sean Piggott ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). You can also call 07702833096.

Best wishes,

Bethan Holt (Home Fixtures Secretary- Nottingham University Athletics Club)

Alsager 5
Monday, 08 February 2010 23:06

Derby were well represented at last weekends notoriously fast Alsager 5 mile road race. Derby finished 4th in the Senior team race, with Alex Pilcher finishing 13th, Tom Phillips in 39th and John Knibb in 67th (12th Vet). The field was stacked with season internationals filling the top 6 or 7 places. Special mention should go to Tom Phillips, more accustomed to 800m and racing way beyond his normal distance in training for the 12 stage road relays.

Alex Pilcher (13th) - 24:20

Tom Phillips (39th)  - 26:37

John Knibb (67th) - 28:36

Russell Parkin (107th) - 29:56
Ray Macdonald (169th) - 31:57
Karl Petch (409th) - 37:15
Paula Parkin (486th) - 39:03

Pilcher and Connor take County Titles
Monday, 08 February 2010 22:59

Alex Pilcher and Ben Connor sealed victories in the rescheduled Derbyshire XC Championships @ Markeaton Park. With Notts holding their event a week earlier, the fields lacked the usual depth. In the Senior Men's race Alex Pilcher pushed the pace along with Veteran Andy Ward. Pilcher was able to steal a march on the last lap and hung on for his first county title, perhaps tainted by Jonny Gilby (6 time champion) missing from the race. In the Under 17 race Ben Connor was a comfortable winner, leading Derby to a clean sweep of the medals; Joshua Bull and Niall Maguire brought the team home. In the Under 15 girls race Veleska Wills edged the title by 1 sec over clubmate and rival Kirsty Shipman.
